Midas Awards Spotlight Interview: Jenny Rooney

Jenny is editor of the CMO Network at Forbes, where she manages content critical to executive-level marketing decision-makers. She reports on industry trends, research and news; has interviewed hundreds of CEOs and CMOs as part of her ongoing Forbes CMO Interview Series; developed the Forbes CMO University Alumni Series; and plays an integral role in the development of topics, content and programming for Forbes CMO Practice events throughout the year, particularly the annual, invitation-only Forbes CMO Summit. Jenny is a member of the Leadership Council of the Media for Social Impact Summit, and she is co-host of Wharton Business Radio’s “Marketing Matters: CMO Spotlight.”

Prior to joining Forbes, she was editor of CMO Strategy at Advertising Age.

Jenny has 20 years of experience at business publications such as Sales & Marketing Management, where she served as editor-in-chief; Business 2.0, where she served as a senior writer covering marketing; and Chief Executive, where she served as contributing editor.

A recipient of the Jesse H. Neal National Business Journalism Award, her areas of focus have included marketing, advertising, and sales; leadership and management issues; digital and emerging media; talent development; health care; and legislative and regulatory issues in multiple industries. She serves as a guest speaker, panelist, and moderator at industry events and has provided commentary for various media outlets.

Jenny received a Master of Science degree in magazine journalism from Ohio University’s E.W. Scripps School of Journalism in 1994 and a Bachelor of Arts degree in English Literature/Creative Writing from Miami University in 1992.

In 2013, after more than 20 years working for some of the largest national and global ad agencies, Mark Lantz made a major career change and founded one of the country’s smallest boutique advertising firms, Factory Detroit Inc. Mark has been best known as one of the creators of the groundbreaking Pure Michigan brand and campaign. Not only did he provide the strategic guidance for the campaign at its inception and through its first three years, he came up with that brand line, Pure Michigan, which is now seen on welcome signs, milk bottles, produce crates and license plates all around the Great Lakes State. That all happened during his time as Chief Strategy Officer at McCann Erickson in Detroit, where he also led all things strategy on Colonial Williamsburg, Children’s Hospital Of Michigan, Detroit Medical Center, General Motors, ALDI Food Stores and more. Before McCann, Mark worked at FCB San Francisco, Ogilvy & Mather Chicago, Rubin Postaer in LA and Wyse Advertising in Cleveland – on such brands as Honda, AT&T Wireless, Taco Bell, ampm minimarts, Suave and a few dozen more. In 2013, Mark founded Factory, now a nine-person creative agency focused on branding, advertising and design, with offices in Royal Oak, Michigan. In the four years Factory’s doors have been open, the agency has worked with such clients as First Citizens Bank, TextbookRush, IronPlanet, mParks, Genesee County Parks, the Detroit Regional Chamber and Detroit Public Television. Humberto Cunha is a modern, cutting-edge brazilian art director. During the last 13 years, he has worked in some of Brasilia's leading agencies such as Mr. Brain and Giacometti, and he is currently working for NOVA SB. He has already attended to some of the biggest brazilian customers such as CAIXA (the largest brazilian public bank), Claro telecom, Burger King, the Brazilian Government, the Ministry of Health, and ILO. Recently, some of his works won awards at international prizes such as Cannes Lions Festival, CLIO sports, El Ojo, Archive, LIA, and Ciclope Latino, and one of them reached the ONE SHOW finals.
